Active School travel

Every Wednesday, we want everyone to think about how they travel to school as we continue to encourage Active Travel Wednesdays as part of the Active School Travel program.

Active School Travel is one of the easiest ways to incorporate physical activity into everyday life for all children, and establish good habits for an active life. Research shows only 41% of Australian children are active for the recommended minimum of one hour every day. For more information on Active School Travel you can visit www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/activeschooltravel.

We know that everyone is different, so there are many ways you can actively travel to school.  How will you actively travel?

Walk

Leave the car at home and walk your kids to school.  If you live too far away, drive part of the way and walk the rest.  We call that ‘Park and Stride’. See the Park and Stride catchment map for the suggested car parking locations marked with yellow stars within the walking distance zone. Walking is an easy way to be active and healthy, and spend more time with family and friends.

Cycle

Ride with your children to school. It is legal to ride on the footpath and remember to always have your helmet secured.

Scooter

It’s fun to scooter to school. Just like cycling, stick to the footpath and remember your helmet.  text here

Public Transport

Public transport is easy once you know how.  The bus routes that service Wishart State School are the 898 & 889 in the mornings and the 816 & 897 in the afternoons.  For bus timetables, visit www.translink.com.au

Car Pool

Find a friend and car pool to school. It is an easy way to save money and time. Talk to other parents in your child’s class or at music and sport to see who is going your way.

So get started and remember that EVERY Wednesday is now Active Travel Wednesday.
