Myths About the P&C — And the Truth Behind Them
Do you feel like the P&C isn’t for you, or that you wouldn’t make a difference? You’re not alone — many parents and carers feel the same way. Here are some common myths we want to bust!
-
Without volunteers, there are no events, no fundraisers, no new readers, playgrounds, iPads or improvements. Everything the P&C provides for the school is powered by volunteers — including the Executive team.
-
Wishart State School has around 1,100 students, yet the P&C has only about 40 members — roughly 3% of our community. Imagine what we could achieve with more hands, more ideas, and more voices.
-
Every minute of your time genuinely counts. We welcome any availability or skills you’re able to offer, and even one hour can have a meaningful impact on the P&C and Wishart State School. Helping might be as simple as labelling bags in the tuckshop, assisting at a fundraising stall, or joining a small working group with other parents and carers to support a school improvement project.
We regularly share volunteer opportunities on our Facebook page and website, and you can choose the tasks and times that suit you best. For event sign‑ups, we always include the required timeframes so you can easily see what fits your schedule.
-
We get it. Everyone is juggling a lot. Meeting attendance isn’t compulsory, and you can join in person or via Microsoft Teams. You can also help in many small ways that don’t require attending meetings at all.
Explore ways to help:
-
The P&C supports the school through fundraising, community events, and improvements to facilities and resources. We work alongside the school to create opportunities and enhance the learning environment for all students.
-
Most people join without knowing anyone. The P&C is friendly, welcoming, and full of parents and carers who simply want to help the school. It’s a great way to meet people and feel connected.
-
You don’t need special skills. Every contribution matters — from labelling bags in the tuckshop to helping at a stall or joining a working group. One hour of your time can make a huge difference.
-
There is no minimum commitment. Help once, help often, or help occasionally — it’s entirely up to you. We always share volunteer opportunities with clear timeframes so you can choose what suits you.
-
You will never be pressured into a role or responsibility. You choose how you want to be involved, we will never be forced into anything you don't want to do.
-

Our Executive team (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer) is supported by paid staff, and the workload varies throughout the year. On average, Executive roles require around 1–2 hours per week, with some busier periods around meetings and the AGM.
Full role descriptions and nomination information are available on the Leadership & Executive Roles page.
